Document Conversion Process
It can take us up to two weeks to convert the first section of books and other documents into an accessible format. We may need to unbind books and scan each page or procure electronic source files from publishers or other sources.
We run scanned pages through automated and manual processes that allows us to convert these pages into a variety of different, accessible formats and edit them to remove errors.
Materials with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Content
Successfully converting math and other symbolic content into readable, accessible text is a manual process done by our editors; there is not a reliably accurate automated tool to do this. Because of this manual process, STEM materials take a long time to convert. If you are taking any STEM classes, please contact our office at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as you register so that we can gather information and get a head start on converting your materials.
Under US Copyright law, accessible files (e-text) provided to the student can be used solely for eligible student’s own educational purposes and cannot be copied, shared, or distributed for use by others.
